The Motor Lofts building, formerly known as the Martin Shaughnessy Building; is reminiscent of late 19th century classical revival architecture. The 107 year old structure was originally constructed in 1906. Populous 19th century American cities were steadily threatened by destructive fires, inspiring Martin Shaughnessy & nationally-known, 19th century architecture firm Barnett, Haynes & Barnett to design a building made entirely with fireproof materials including brick, terra cotta & interior iron columns. The building was innovative for its time as it was the first fire proof building in St. Louis. Purposed as a motor parts warehouse, the building fit the need to protect storage of industrial type equipment.
With recent renovations completed, the building is now registered with the National Register of Historic places. Now referred to as Motor Lofts, the superstructure has been transformed into a 6 story high-rise featuring 56 loft apartments, 19 condominiums and ground floor retail. Complete with a sleek-stylish interior, large private balconies, 12 foot ceilings, modern kitchens and private enclosed parking. Motor Lofts is surrounded by exciting restaurants, retail shops and night life.
